I received my Juris Doctorate from the College of Law, University of Toledo, Toledo, Ohio, and began practicing law in Ohio in 1989. I focused my practice on criminal and civil litigation, including personal injury and wrongful death, real estate fraud, will-contest cases, landlord-tenant matters, employment discrimination, domestic relations, collections, and criminal defense. I have handled estate planning, collections, family, real estate, employment and small business law. While in Ohio, I was an Arbitor for the Court of Common Pleas, Hamilton County, Ohio (same as the Superior Court in NC), where I sat as the Chair of a three (3) member arbitration panel.

Bringing Experience to North Carolina

In 1999, I moved to Clemmons, North Carolina, bringing with me years of experience gained while practicing law with my father in Ohio. My dad, who began practicing in 1950, taught me about the legal profession and how to practice the old-fashioned way. I learned that being a professional means having true respect for my clients and the legal system, and always exhibiting honesty, integrity, concern and cordiality.

Trial Lawyers CollegeGayle with Gerry Spence (Founded by Legendary Trial Attorney Gerry Spence)

In order to better represent my clients in the courtroom, in February 2006, I began attending regional seminars at the prestigious Trial Lawyers College (TLC) founded by renowned trial attorney Gerry Spence. The Trial Lawyers College is dedicated to training and educating lawyers and judges who are committed to the jury system and to representing and obtaining justice for individuals — the poor, the injured, the forgotten, the voiceless, the defenseless and the damned — and to protecting the rights of such people from corporate and government oppression. In all of its activities, the Trial Lawyers College fosters and nourishes an open atmosphere of caring for clients regardless of their race, age, creed, religion, national origin, physical abilities, gender or sexual orientation. In 2007, I applied for and was accepted to the Trial Lawyers College 3-week Ranch Program were we worked extensively on all phases of trial. Since completing the program, I have continued to attend TLC and other workshops where we actively work on our cases and our trial skills.

Current Areas of Practice

Following my admission to the North Carolina Bar in 1999, I narrowed my areas of practice to personal injury; business and commercial contract law; probate and estate planning; speeding tickets and traffic citation defense; and civil litigation. In addition, in 1999, I became a Certified Attorney Mediator and am available to help litigants resolve disputes to the satisfaction of all parties involved, without going to trial.

Professional Memberships

I am a member in good standing of the following professional associations:

  • North Carolina Bar Association
  • Forsyth County Bar Association
  • North Carolina Advocates for Justice (formerly NC Academy of Trial Lawyers)
  • American Association for Justice (formerly Association of Trial Lawyers of America)
  • The Ranch Club (Gerry Spence's Trial Lawyers College)
  • Cincinnati Bar Association
  • Ohio State Bar Association.

Although a resident of North Carolina, I am still licensed to practice law in Ohio, and am also licensed to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.

Community and Environmental Involvement

With a Masters of Environmental Science from the Institute of Environment Science, Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, I am an advocate for the protection of our environment and the conservation of our natural resources. I am actively involved in local environmental organizations, and work to promote environmental awareness that begins in our community and reaches to global proportions.

Among other environmental initiatives, in June 2006, I co-founded Temple Emanuel's environmental movement (TEEM), where we host Environmental Movie/Speaker Nights. In conjunction with the movies, speaker panels offer discussions on environmental themes designed to help participants learn ways to take action on current environmental issues.

I am also a Board Member of the Piedmont Environmental Alliance and the Yadkin Riverkeepers.
